What happens when you use one

  1. Open the template

    It copies into your account as a hunt of your own. The original stays exactly as it is, so nothing you do here can break it for anyone else.

  2. Make it yours

    Change the clues, the answers, the order of the steps, and the places they happen. Move the map pins to your own town, or ask the AI assistant to rewrite the whole route for where you actually are.

  3. Share a link

    Publish it and send one link. Players open it on their phone and start straight away. Nothing to install, and no account needed on their side.

What you can change

All of it. A template is a finished hunt that happens to be written by us instead of by you, so everything a hunt has, you can edit:

  • Every clue, question, and answer
  • The place each step happens, and the map pin that unlocks it
  • How many steps there are, and what order people take them in
  • The challenge type: a clue to read, a quiz, a photo or audio mission, or a free-text task
  • Hints, points, time limits, and how many tries someone gets
  • The name, the cover image, and the message players see when they finish

Questions people ask

Do I need an account to use a template?

You need a free HedgeHunt account, because the template is copied into your library as a hunt that belongs to you. Players you share the finished hunt with do not need an account at all.

The template is set in one city. Can I use it in mine?

Yes. Every step keeps its own location, so you can drag each pin to a place near you. If you would rather not do it by hand, open the AI assistant and ask it to rewrite the hunt for your town, and it will replace the clues and the route for you.

Can I change how many steps it has?

Yes. Add steps, delete the ones you do not want, and drag them into a different order. A template is a starting point, not a fixed shape.

Does using a template cost anything?

No. Copying a template is free and it counts as one of the hunts in your library, the same as a hunt you build from scratch or generate with AI.

Can I use the same template more than once?

Yes. Copy it as many times as you like, and each copy is separate, so you can run one version for a class on Monday and a different version for a birthday on Saturday.

1. What we measure here

We count visits to hedgehunt.app so we can tell which pages and messages actually help people start a hunt. We measure page views, button clicks, scroll depth and which campaign brought you here.

2. No analytics data is kept on your device

This site sets no analytics cookies and keeps no analytics data or identifier in your browser. The analytics library briefly writes and deletes a throwaway key to check whether storage works at all; it holds nothing about you. Your browser does send analytics requests to hedgehunt.app/ingest on our own domain, and the identifier used to group them into a visit is derived on our servers and regenerated daily, so we cannot follow you from one day to the next or recognise you on another site.

Remembers this choice, and nothing else. Cannot be turned off.

3. Your objection is remembered here only

Turning measurement off stores hh_landing_analytics_objection in this browser's local storage for this site, alongside hh_landing_analytics_preference_set, which records only that you made a choice. Neither holds an identifier. Clearing your browser storage clears it, and measurement resumes until you turn it off again. Because it is stored per browser, the choice does not follow you to another device.

4. The apps are separate

The hunt builder and the player are separate products with their own analytics and their own consent controls. This setting covers this marketing site only. If you have an account, you can object to product analytics from Settings, Account inside the builder.
