What this covers
This page describes the cookies and browser storage used on the public HedgeHunt landing site at hedgehunt.app. The product app has its own data flows. For the full picture of what we process and your rights, see the privacy policy.
This site sets no analytics cookies
We count visits to this marketing site without keeping anything on your device for that purpose. No analytics cookie, no analytics identifier in your browser. The analytics library does briefly write and delete a throwaway key to check whether browser storage works at all; it holds nothing about you and does not survive the check. Your browser also sends us analytics requests, to hedgehunt.app/ingest on our own domain, carrying the page you viewed and what you clicked. The identifier used to group those requests into a visit is derived on our servers and regenerated every day, so we cannot follow you from one day to the next or recognise you on another site.
We do this under our legitimate interest in knowing whether this site works, rather than under consent, because no analytics data or identifier is kept on your device. You can object at any time and we stop counting your visits.
The builder and player apps are separate
build.hedgehunt.app and play.hedgehunt.app are separate products with their own analytics
and their own consent banner. Nothing you choose here grants or withdraws consent there. Because their cookies are set
across the hedgehunt.app domain, a signed-in app session can leave a
ph_* cookie that is visible on this domain too, even though this site never sets one.
What we use
| Key | Purpose | Retention | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
hh_landing_analytics_objection | Set only if you turn audience measurement off. Local storage on hedgehunt.app, holds no identifier. Cleared when you turn measurement back on or clear browser storage. | Until you clear it or clear browser storage | Essential |
hh_landing_analytics_preference_set | Records that you have made an analytics choice on this site, so an older consent record is not applied over it. | Until you clear browser storage | Essential |
hh_landing_debug | Turns on analytics debug logging when ?debug=1 is used. Set by us during QA, never automatically. | Until removed from browser storage | Optional |
hh_landing_internal_traffic | Marks internal traffic mode when ?internal=1 is used. Set by us during QA, never automatically. | Until removed from browser storage | Optional |
__mplssupport__ | Written and immediately deleted by the analytics library to check whether browser storage is available. Carries no data about you and does not survive the check. | Deleted during the same check | Essential |
test | Written and immediately deleted by the analytics library to check whether browser storage is available. Carries no data about you and does not survive the check. | Deleted during the same check | Essential |
ph_debug | Read by the analytics library to see whether debug logging is switched on. Written only when we turn debug mode on during QA, never during a normal visit. | Until removed from browser storage | Optional |
hh_cookie_consent_v1 | The cookie consent record set by the hunt builder and player apps. This site only reads it, once per visit until you make a choice here, so an earlier decision to decline analytics is not silently reversed. This site never writes or clears it. | Owned by the builder and player apps, not set or cleared by this site | Optional |
ph_* | PostHog analytics identifiers, set by the builder and player apps on their own subdomains under their own consent banner. This marketing site sets none; a cross-subdomain cookie from a signed-in app session can still be visible on the apex domain. | Defined by PostHog/browser settings | Optional |
How to turn measurement off
Use the Privacy settings link in the footer and turn audience measurement off. That stores two values in this browser, hh_landing_analytics_objection to remember your objection and hh_landing_analytics_preference_set to record that you made a choice, and we stop counting your visits straight away. Because it is remembered per browser, you will need to repeat it on another device or after clearing site data.
We also honour Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. If your browser sends either signal, measurement stays off regardless of the setting above. Turning measurement off does not affect access to the site.
Analytics processor
We use PostHog to measure page usage and campaign performance, configured so that it keeps no state in your browser. We do not capture the text you type into the prompt box, and we do not put your name, email, or phone number into analytics events. More detail is in the privacy policy.
